The Gateway to Europe Kío building has a parallelepiped shape with an inclination of 14.3º that generates an overhang of thirty metres and an overlap from base to roof of five metres.
This office building is located in the Plaza de Castilla in Madrid (Spain) and is known as the KIO tower. A structure was designed consisting of a vertical reinforced concrete core that houses the lifts, stairs and ventilation systems.
Perimeter elements are used to stiffen the structure and prevent deformation, such as the crosses on the side facades and the remarked vertical dividing the main facades. As the final weight tends to overturn the building, cables connect the top of the building with an underground counterweight on the opposite side.
Each floor is different because the position of the vertical core changes in relation to the base rectangle. Above this roof level is the heliport that crowns each of the towers.
The façade of the towers is a design that mixes glass, aluminium and stainless steel to form the large shiny bands.
The model is built on a 25 cm x 25 cm base with a height of 46 cm, has the same design as the original building and retains the same peculiar shape as it is inclined 15° from the vertical.
